We are pleased to welcome Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines and Barbara Winton to The Holocaust Exhibition and Learning Centre as part of our first anniversary celebrations.

Lady Milena escaped Czechoslovakia in 1938 on a Kindertransport arranged by Sir Nicholas Winton, a British humanitarian who helped save 669 children from the Holocaust. Milena will be joined by Barbara Winton, the daughter of Sir Nicholas, who will share her father’s remarkable story of helping those children whose lives were at risk.

Sir Nicholas Winton supervised the rescue of 669 mainly Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia. The final transport of 250 children was due to leave Prague on 1st September 1939, the day Germany invaded Poland, but was stopped by the Germans. All those on board were subsequently killed during the Holocaust.

Lady Milena and Barbara will share the stage, telling their individual family stories and reflecting on how their experiences should inform our response to the present day refugee crisis.
