Despite decades of research, there are many who still feel that the German Army somehow remained aloof from the Nazi genocidal project, now known as the Holocaust.

This public lecture will lay out the key elements of the “Clean Wehrmacht” myth and then explore the very real ways in which ordinary soldiers participated in the Holocaust.  Drawing from the speaker’s book on this subject, this talk will show what complicity looked like not in abstraction but in very real terms on the ground.

Dr. Waitman Wade Beorn is a Senior Lecturer in History at Northumbria University in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK.  He is also a consultant and writer for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.  Dr. Beorn was previously the Director of the Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond, VA and the inaugural Blumkin Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

We are delighted to bring Waitman to Huddersfield with the support of the University of Huddersfield, the Wiener Holocaust Library and the Holocaust Research Institute at Royal Holloway, University of London.

The Holocaust Exhibition & Learning Centre will be open until 6.30pm on the day of the lecture. Refreshments will be available in our pop-up cafe from 5pm.
